Minor-Age Contributors

Definitions[edit]

A “Minor” in this sense is someone who is:

Under the age of 18 years;
Or, Under the age of legal majority in their jurisdiction;
Or, Unable to legally enter a contract themself, perhaps because they are Cognitively Disabled

Unless they are:

At least 13 years of age, and
A court of competent jurisdiction has explicitly issued a ruling that the person is to be considered a legal adult (that is, “removed the disability of youth” or some similar phrase; also called an “emancipated minor” in some jurisdictions)

A “Guardian” is:

A parent with rights to visitation or custody who is not otherwise forbidden from acting as a legal guardian;
Or, A legal guardian appointed by a court or act of government;
Or, A Guardian Ad Litem or other appointed legal custodian;
Or, A Conservator or Regent appointed by appropriate act of government;
Or, An officer of a court of competent jurisdiction otherwise authorized to act as a legal guardian.

Making Contributions[edit]

Before making any Contributions (see Contributing and Copyright), such a Minor's Guardian must submit some documentation of consent to Violet Volts.

Submit the authorization to Violet Volts Legal Representative via e-mail.

A note will appear on the Wiki-Wiki identifying only the online “handle” used by this individual and that such consent has been obtained, in Category:Minors with consent.

Legal documentation of custody or guardianship are not required in advance; however, if any legal challenge were made, the Guardian is respons

Consent Template[edit]

An acceptable template is:

     I, ___ (name of Guardian), am the ___ (parent/legal guardian/guardian ad litem/explain) of
     ___ (name of Minor), who is my ward, by virtue of being:

Example: Cognitively Disabled[edit]

13-17 Years Old Self-Represented[edit]

In some jurisdictions a person may have the “disability of youth” removed, perhaps by act of a family court. Even though they may be below the age of majority in their jurisdiction, they are legally considered to not be a Minor.

This is pretty rare. In the US, it is sometimes the result of the loss of a guardian (like a parent) when someone is already 16 or 17 and moderately self-sufficient.
