Cognitively Disabled

We use the term “cognitively disabled” to describe a person who has a mental, emotional, or physical condition which impairs their ability to perform mental activities that typical people are able to do.

This is analogous to, or supersedes, other less-appropriate terms including:

  • mentally handicapped
  • mentally disabled
  • emotionally disabled
  • mentally retarded
  • learning disabled

Some conditions which might impose cognitive disabilities include

  • Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Down's Syndrome
  • Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Major Depression
  • Brain injury
  • Dyslexia
  • Epilepsy or Narcolepsy
  • Attachment disorders
  • … and many others.

A large portion of the world's population are cognitively disabled in some way or to some degree. We aim to ensure the maximum Accessibility to Tootsville and enjoyment of it by all users, regardless of their cognitive or Physically Disabled status.
