Foley

“Foley” is the technical term for sound effects that are used, for sounds that occur in the real world naturally, like: foot-steps, scratching sounds, explosions — basically anything where a sound can be heard, but it isn't because someone was trying to say something or make a sound. Spoken words, musical instruments, and so forth are not foley.
